[Does she want to be around all of the people still living on these islands for an indeterminate of time, listening to secrets ripped out of the hoard of conch shell, heard one last time before being lost forever?
Interesting as it is at first, the conches lose their intrigue quickly. Being surrounded by the uncontainable emotions of those grouped up there loses it even faster. Waltaquin dips from the assembly early.
She walks far down the beach, out of sight and earshot of everything else, careful where she walks. Her path takes her far back toward the sea caves, where they would keep a murderer if they had one on hand to punish. Who should she find on her walk but Wang Lu, whose appearance seems to surprise her in the raise of her brow and upturn in her slow, even voice are anything to go off of.]
Should you not be with one of the others? [It's strange to see him alone.]
[ There's only so much of Haruka crying someone could take.
It looks like Wang Lu has had time to change out of the silly uniform and into his actual robes from his world. His arms are folded with his hands tucked into his sleeves when he hears her. Looking over to her as the corner of his mouth lifts for a moment. ]
I wouldn't want to take away any attention from the shell breaking.
[ It doesn't sound like that's the real reason. His gaze will go towards the cave. ]
Taking in the sights or were you curious to see if they would have imprisoned his body in there?
[Most of the people ... though they may have their violent tendencies that need venting, after today. There's more than one person here wired like a wild animal ready to snap.
Her gaze follows his.]
That would be a sight, wouldn't it? I'd almost pay the price of admission for it.
I came here last week. I thought I'd make the trip again. Perhaps I thought I'd learn something new? [She lifts her arms out to the sides in a wide shrug.]
[He really would enjoy it more than they would have the satisfaction of watching him like an animal on a leash. Waltaquin sighs. It's too bad the less taciturn of their hoses saw fit to destroy the tower before it played its story out. That might have been a show worth watching.]
That's not true. You learned about your terrible luck, for starters. [She adds, much more seriously:] I'm surprised they didn't demand we vote another 'sacrifice" into the gaol regardless. Perhaps it's enough for there to just be two?
It is quite terrible. Sometimes you have a nice night when someone, and they die a day or two later. [ Woe is him.
He does consider it for a moment. ] Two probably suffices and they may want to have extras just in case something goes awry. It also seems at least one of our hosts has an attachment to at least one of us. [ There was an interesting reaction when Lacus was upset ]
More's the sorrow, you might never have had that night without the death.
[Waltaquin shrugs a little bit, though there is a smile slowly spreading on her mouth. Perhaps, in her opinion, there are far worse instances of bad luck than that. She may have received one (1) answer, in the end.]
If that suffices, then why not kill two from the start? Say, eliminate the remaining pair in Kakapo cabana while we are defenseless on our lonesome, and satisfy the quota.
[She'll let that conjecture sit there a bit, morbidly, before continuing.] ... No, there's something else they must get only from the trials.
Normally I have a little trouble with people playing with my toys and would beat a retraction out of you.
But that isn't what this is. [They may all of them be playing a dangerous game, but she thinks what she had as more than a plaything to shake around in her mouth.]
I think it likely that none of the three of us operate under any pretenses when it comes to this, though in the dead's stead I must speak for them.
Emotions? That sounds flimsy on the surface... but perhaps you may be right.
We are most of us in possession of significant power... More than one source? Consider that one person using their skills to assassinate two would rely on only those abilities...whereas should they kill one and be put to the sword by another of us...
I still feel the need to apologize. I normally wouldn't let myself be charmed by anyone taken, toy or otherwise.
[ He's too nice for that ]
If it isn't emotions, then you may be on to something with power. They may not even need two sacrifices but the display of power and our capabilities in this situation. We don't know how much of this we can trust that is the island's doing or theirs.
no need to apologize!! everything happened so much
Hahaha, I should do something with this repentant impulse of yours... you could owe me a great deal for toying with my feelings. Seeing as I don't feel like balancing the score, however, I'll accept unconditionally.
[She waves her hand, gesturing at the partially visible landscape around them.]
These islands would appear to be a convenient stronghold for them, not a base of their own design. I cannot imagine either of them being the architects of such marvels as "the mini-golf course." [It's said very dryly, which pairs well with the ridiculous of of "the mini-golf course" when it comes out of her mouth.] That doesn't mean that everything didn't go wrong only when they arrived here.
week 3 post-trial

[ Last week, huh? ]
Let me know if you do. I was also here last week, and still haven't learned a thing.

That is true. He may never have gotten away with it normally. [ Then his gaze will move on to her. ] Do I have to worry if you're the jealous sort?
[ He wouldn't hold it against her if she was. ]
Maybe it has to do with the emotions and fight for one's life instead?
