[She's never been thrilled about the cabanas or their lack of privacy. How terribly dull and restrictive it all is should be evidence in Waltaquin's voice from the start.
She is not, however, beyond recognizing the need to attempt cohesion between all of them.]
If today's events are anything to go by, we should acquaint ourselves with the idea of being asked to speak for one's weekly activities.
I shall tell you now that I intend to continue acting exactly as I have been and exactly as I please. Constraining ourselves will just open up a weakness.
[Poor thing. Has she been crying over a stranger - or perhaps it's just the weight of accepting the reality of their situation? Quin isn't about to stop everything to talk about it, though.]
Should we have a curfew as well? If you insist on pairing up for our safety, it's still better to remain unpredictable.
[A buddy system is just going to lead to more dead buddies!]
[ Is she insisting on that? Psyche takes a deeper breath and pats her cheeks a few times, trying to force herself to think clearly. The look Waltaquin is giving her makes her try to conjure a brief, watery smile. ]
You mean, in case anyone plans for that? Maybe... But even if it's not as restrictive as a curfew, shouldn't we at least know when to worry about each other? I can't help thinking that if we'd found Merlin sooner, I might have been able to heal him in time.
I suppose that's true. Especially with what people were saying at the meeting about their powers not working like they should...
[ She hasn't exactly had any dire injuries here to verify that for herself. Normally she'd be grateful, but under the circumstances...
She lets out a short, sharp sigh and shakes her head. ]
Thank you. Then, maybe... if we leave at night, tell the others when to expect us back? Although there's no reason night would be more dangerous than any other time...
Night can be more dangerous, presuming people retire as normal. I can see why it might help you sleep better to keep tabs on us.
[Making strategic moves under cover of night has always been a tactic. A good assassin will strike at any time, but the advantages of darkness are obvious, especially if many of them on the island are amateurs.]
And if you make the choice to kill someone, will everyone you normally tell become a liability?
I just don't want anyone else to get hurt. If there's something we can do to keep everyone a little safer, shouldn't we try it? I'm open to any ideas you have, too.
[ That's quite a hypothetical... Psyche frowns a tiny bit. ]
Would it be any worse than not telling someone at all? We'd probably notice each other gone either way, only sooner. [ So a thorough killer would still be in the same position with liabilities, by her reasoning. ]
It's a kind sentiment, but I think others will be hurt regardless. Our hosts already took matters into their own hands; if not one of us, they've already shown that they're willing to act.
[She simply can't quite wrap her mind around what seems to be a desire to look out for others at the cost of covering her own back. As far as Quin is concerned, Psyche should be more worried about looking out for herself.]
Still, we can reasonably say that fortune has brought us together. Given our close living quarters, we may benefit from working together unless we unanimously agree to go our separate ways.
[Please...must she expect to share a bed with this girl forevermore?]
I agree, looking out for one another is in everyone's best interest. It might not be a perfect solution to the dangers posed here, but it's better than living in isolation.
[ Was Sonya fashionably late to this gathering? Yes. But he's caught up quickly, inserting himself into the conversation as he tends to do. ]
[ An ally from an unexpected corner? Psyche perks up a little. It sounds like they're all agreeing now, more or less.
Which leaves Quin stuck with her cheery bedmate for the moment, unfortunately. ]
I'm glad you both think so. So... should we do anything differently? At the very least, I don't think anyone should try confronting Ho-oh or Rapt0r alone.
I don't think anyone should confront them anytime soon, until we have a clearer picture of what we're dealing with. Timing is always important, but especially in situations like these.
As for what we should do differently...while we could propose a curfew, to truly be effective, one of us would have to take guard while the rest sleep. [ It's not something he sounds opposed to, but it's only possible with buy-in from others. ]
[A posted watch...that's just another target. She could say that, but Waltaquin really does think she might be wasting her breath. They seem aware of the dangers of proposing such a method and more willing than she is to be the first obstacle in the way of a determined killer.]
For the whole lot of us, or just those of us in this cabin? We'd have better luck forging this agreement only amongst ourselves.
[Waltaquin holds up her phone and tilts it.] Unless we'd like to call another meeting, we can always use this for our doctrine.
What do you say, Psyche? Let's keep mum about our little experiment for the time being, or do you like the thought of everyone knowing ahead of time exactly how we plan to spend our nights together?
[Is she lowkey recommending her bunkmate as speaker? She definitely is.]
wow I'm here now cus i just remembered this existed
[ Miss Waltaquin, your phrasing?? Psyche takes a moment to consider. ]
...I think it would be enough to wake the others. Better than confronting anything alone, and we can decide what to do as a group. If everything works out, I can leave a note about it on the device like Waltaquin says?
[Oh, her phrasing was precisely as intended, though maybe it's a shame she didn't get more of a reaction from it.]
Or eliminate the threat outright, and in gratitude for the saving the rest of us we all work to obfuscate the situation.
[She gives it only a beat in which it might appear she's serious, then -]
Only joking! Putting aside the moral objections you lot might have, imagine the logistics. I'm afraid time has a habit of getting away from me, so I'm usually not in until later. Shall we put me toward the tail?
"peace" "week" saturday, post-investigation

[It sounded like his death was quite violent. Even the most skilled of healers reach a threshold that can't be overcome.]
You shouldn't blame yourself. [This is added a bit off-handedly.] But I am willing to hear your ideas, though I won't make any promises.

Maybe just our cabin, and we can always suggest it to the other cabins the next time we're in a group? ...Is four people enough to do shifts?

psyche will be out with plans to be back for her shift!
